The flexibility of a fixed indexed annuity in retirement income planning

Annuities continue to gain a place with advisors as part of their client retirement portfolios. When compared to a typical managed money portfolio, annuities can replace all or a portion of the fixed income segment, to help boost accumulation potential and derisk via guaranteed principal. But if the client is in or near retirement, what about income? Does the client want to leave a portion of the assets to heirs? After accumulation, these are two important considerations that advisors and their clients must answer.
